Maharashtra Mandates Aadhaar for Property Registration to Curb Fraud

Starting October 1, Maharashtra has implemented a new mandate requiring Aadhaar authentication for the registration of immovable property documents. This measure, introduced by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, aims to curtail fraud and enhance the verification of identities in property transactions.

The regulation affects 63 types of property registrations, including sales, purchases, mortgages, and partition deeds. According to Minister Bawankule, the initiative seeks to mitigate issues such as impersonation, fraudulent documentation, and excessive human intervention during the registration process.

Individuals who do not possess an Aadhaar number will need to provide proof of having applied for one. Additionally, they must submit other government-issued identity documents. This information will be verified before any property transaction is finalized.

The government has also introduced special provisions to accommodate minors and specific eligible categories. In particular, children lacking an Aadhaar number will not be excluded from property registration benefits solely due to the absence of this identification.

The new system is designed to make property registration more secure, transparent, and efficient. By implementing Aadhaar authentication, the government aims to strengthen the integrity of property transactions and reduce the risk of fraud.
