Google Expands AI Features in Chrome for Android Users in India

Google has expanded its Gemini in Chrome artificial intelligence features to Android users in India, introducing AI-powered browsing capabilities directly within the Chrome browser. This update allows users to perform a variety of tasks, such as summarizing webpages and connecting information across Google services like Gmail and Calendar, as well as generating images.

A standout feature of this update is the more advanced auto-browse capability, now available for Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers in India. This feature enables the AI to navigate websites and complete tasks on behalf of users, such as comparing products, finding deals, booking event tickets, making restaurant reservations, and scheduling appointments. It is designed to manage complex, multi-step activities that typically require users to visit multiple webpages and complete several actions manually.

Given the AI’s ability to interact directly with websites, Google has implemented safety measures to mitigate potential risks. Gemini is equipped to identify threats, such as prompt-injection attempts, and may require user confirmation for sensitive actions before proceeding. These safeguards are crucial, especially when the AI can make changes, submit forms, or conduct transactions on behalf of users.

The extent of auto-browse capabilities users can access depends on their subscription level. Google AI Pro subscribers are allowed up to 20 multi-step requests per day, while Google AI Ultra subscribers can make up to 200 requests daily. This expansion signifies a shift towards more agentic AI capabilities in Chrome, moving beyond simple inquiries to performing a broader range of web-based tasks.
