The establishment of a new airport in Purulia district is poised to significantly enhance air connectivity, boosting tourism, infrastructure, and industrial development in the region. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that the West Bengal government will formalize an agreement with the Centre on September 28 to set up the airport. Preparations are reportedly complete, with the state government having already applied for the necessary licenses. A representative from the civil aviation authorities has been involved in discussions, ensuring that all regulatory requirements are met.
The development of the airport is seen as a catalyst for attracting investments in a range of sectors, including defense, steel, cement, and solar energy. According to Adhikari, these initiatives could bring in investments worth approximately ₹1 lakh crore over the next year, positioning Purulia as a key player in the state’s economic landscape.
