Putin explores tech ties at New Delhi BRICS summit, Sept 12-13

India is preparing to host the BRICS summit this September, marking an important event as it assumes the chairmanship of the influential group this year. Scheduled for September 12-13, the summit will be held in New Delhi, with Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed to attend, according to a Kremlin aide. This annual gathering underscores India’s pivotal role in facilitating dialogue among key emerging economies.

President Putin’s participation in the summit signifies his first visit to India since December 2025, when he attended the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit. Alongside the main events of the BRICS summit, a bilateral meeting between President Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping is planned, highlighting the strategic collaborations between these major global players.

Earlier this month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was in New Delhi for a BRICS member states conclave, reflecting the ongoing diplomatic engagements within the bloc. The BRICS grouping, initially comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, expanded in 2024 to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates. Indonesia further joined in 2025, illustrating the bloc’s growing influence and reach.

Today, BRICS represents a formidable global platform, uniting 11 leading emerging economies. These countries collectively account for nearly 49.5% of the world’s population, contributing about 40% to global GDP and approximately 26% to global trade. The upcoming summit in New Delhi is expected to further strengthen ties and enhance cooperation among member nations, addressing critical global challenges and exploring new opportunities for collaboration.
