According to the new regulations approved by Thai authorities, Indian passport holders will need to obtain a Visa on Arrival (VoA) or apply for an e-Visa before their trip, as the extended visa-free stay option will no longer be available. The Visa on Arrival allows for a 15-day stay per entry, significantly shorter than the previous 60-day period. Those opting to bypass airport queues can arrange their travel documents online through Thailand’s official e-Visa platform prior to their journey.
Industry analysts suggest the policy adjustment might discourage spontaneous travel and last-minute holiday bookings due to the added paperwork and associated fees. Nevertheless, Thailand is anticipated to continue being an appealing destination for Indian tourists, thanks to its cost-effectiveness, convenient flight routes, diverse attractions, and renowned hospitality sector.
The updated regulations are expected to have a more pronounced effect on long-stay visitors, digital nomads, and those planning extended multi-city vacations. Travelers seeking longer, more flexible stays might start considering other Southeast Asian destinations with more lenient entry processes. The new rules will become official 15 days after their publication in the Royal Gazette, with travelers entering Thailand before this date remaining under the previous regulations until their entry validity expires.
