India and Poland are set to deepen their cooperation in strategic sectors such as defence, space, and nuclear energy following discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The leaders emphasized the importance of expanding economic ties and aim to double bilateral trade from approximately $6.3 billion to $12.6 billion by 2030.
During their meeting, Modi and Tusk identified opportunities for joint development and production in critical areas, including defence equipment, space technology, and nuclear energy. They also explored collaboration in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, fintech, and critical minerals. Modi extended an invitation to Polish companies to partner with India in these ventures, while Tusk highlighted the necessity of diversifying access to strategic resources to enhance economic security.
A key focus of the discussions was on defence cooperation, with both countries working towards an agreement on the protection and exchange of classified information. Plans to establish a defence industry dialogue and a counterterrorism dialogue were also discussed, alongside potential joint manufacturing projects for military equipment, drones, and satellite technologies.
The dialogue extended to regional and international issues, such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Modi reiterated India’s call for diplomatic efforts to achieve peace, which was welcomed by Polish officials. Additionally, the leaders acknowledged the longstanding people-to-people connections, including Poland’s assistance to Indian students evacuated from Ukraine in 2022 and historical support for Polish refugees in India during World War II.
As part of their broader strategic partnership, India and Poland also intend to establish a bilateral startup bridge and foster partnerships in critical minerals and coal gasification. The ongoing discussions are expected to benefit further from the proposed India-European Union trade agreement, which could provide additional opportunities for exports and investment.
