Israel Strikes Gaza, Defying Truce; Netanyahu Demands Peace Force Veto

Israel’s military struck the Nuseirat refugee camp in Gaza, defying a fragile truce as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu simultaneously demanded veto power over a future peace force. Hamas condemned the strike as a “clear violation” of the Trump-brokered agreement.
The Israeli military claimed the strike targeted Islamic Jihad militants. The violence comes as Netanyahu asserts control, stating, “Israel will determine which forces are unacceptable to us” for the international force.
He claimed the US supports this position, which he has already used to signal a block against Turkey. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio backed the principle, saying the force must be “comfortable” for Israel.
Rubio also stressed that Hamas, which remains armed, will be excluded from any future governance.
The truce is also strained by the slow exchange of remains. Donald Trump warned Hamas to “return more bodies now,” as only 18 hostage remains have been returned for 195 Palestinian bodies.
